The Caretaker’s Guide to Loving a Home merges film and installation to explore memory, transience, and the commodification of housing. The film was funded by the Maroondah Arts Council and displayed at the Arts Activators exhibition in May 2025 at the Maroondah Federation Estate Gallery. At its heart is the story of a "deceased estate" cleaner who defies the cold efficiency of her job by turning it into a heartfelt ritual — a five-step guide to giving homes a proper farewell. In a world where houses are increasingly stripped of their identity as homes, the piece is a poignant reminder that these spaces are more than mere physical structures, but are vessels of human life and connection.
